A 14-year-old boy committed suicide by hanging as he was chided by his parents for being poor in academics.

Vikas Singh, a resident of Dasanapura, who was studying in seventh standard at the Acharya Guru Parampara Vidyalaya, has left a suicide note saying that he was taking the extreme step as his parents were forcing him to study.

The incident was reported from his house in Madanayakanahalli on the outskirts of the city.
According to the police, Vikas was not interested in studies and was being repeatedly reprimanded by his parents and teachers on a regular basis. Vikas had recently told his mother that he was not interested in attending school. His mother scolded him and forced him to attend school, a senior police officer said.

On Tuesday, Vikas was scolded by one of his teachers for not completing his homework and was reprimanded in front of his classmates, police said.

A depressed Vikas returned home and hanged himself in his room leaving behind a suicide note stating that he was taking the extreme step as his parents were forcing him to study. His body was shifted to Nelamangala government hospital for postmortem. Based on a complaint by the victim's uncle, Madanayakanahalli police have taken up a case of unnatural death and are investigating.
