Last Updated 04 February 2017, 20:12 IST

Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu has said that the Centre had released Rs 2,070 crore to Karnataka under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (Amrut).

The mission aims to improve infrastructural facilities such as water supply, sewage treatment, drainage and urban transport.

Addressing a press meet in Bengaluru on Saturday, Naidu said that a total of 27 cities from Karnataka had been selected under Amrut scheme. Instead of sanctioning funds every year, the Centre decided to release funds at one go for the next three years. So far, Rs 4,971 crore has been allocated for Karnataka, he added.

Naidu said that Rs 388 crore had been sanctioned to Belagavi and Davangere under the Smart City Mission and Karnataka had to submit a proposal to the Centre for including Bengaluru in the mission.

He said that the Union government had so far sanctioned Rs 16,700 crore for the metro rail network in Bengaluru.
