Deputy Commissioner G Satyavathi on Monday directed the officials to regularly conduct quarterly meetings of SC, ST Actrocity Committee in every taluk- and divisional-level to find out solution to the issues.

Presiding over a meeting here, she insisted on holding regular meetings in the wake of tardy disposal rate of the cases, as only 41 cases had been disposed of and compensation has been provided to the needy against 125 cases registered.

The DC said the assistant commissioner should preside over the meeting at divisional level and tahsildar should take lead at the taluk level. It will ensure speedy disposal of cases, she added.

To a demand on building Ambedkar Bhavan at the site next to Dalit colony at Hadihalli village in the taluk, the DC directed the officials concerned to pay heed to locals’ demand. However, she turned down the request for community toilet for Dalits, citing rules that do not permit, besides making it  further difficult in maintaining the facility. However, she promised to sanction individual toilets by surveying households without toilets.

The executive officer of taluk panchayat and panchayat development officer were told to conduct a survey in this regard.

The officials were told to verify and take action on the demand for road at Talagodu village at Kalasa hobli, Moodigere taluk. The municipal officers were directed to distribute the sites that were allotted at Moodigere during the year 1995-96 and have remained unoccupied still, to the poor who are waiting for a permanent roof.

Earlier, the social welfare officer informed the meeting that a total of 66 Ambedkar Bhavans have been built in the district. The work on 65 Bhavans is underway. Sites have to be identified for the remaining nine Bhavans, he added.

Zilla Panchayat CEO R Ragapriya, SP K Annamalai, Additional DC M L Vaishali and other officials attended the meeting.
