The city’s experimental nature has brought several culinary options for Bengalureans. Bringing some interesting delights in Continental cuisine is ‘Sunny Side Up’ in Cooke Town, which offers an all-day breakfast menu and other bites to dig into.

The owner of the restaurant, Nikhil David Prakash, is passionate about food and the restaurant came about as a result of that. “The realisation that there weren’t many places in the city which served Continental food is what motivated me to start the place, around a year back. There were no options for all-day breakfast in this area,” he says.

The place brings a variety of specialities one can indulge in, including an ‘English breakfast’ that includes an egg ‘sunny side up’, omelette or scrambled egg with toast or pancake and baked beans, pepper pork sausages and bacon strips. Vegans can indulge in the ‘Vegan breakfast’ which includes multigrain toast, creamy polenta, strawberry oatmeal and coffee, tea or juice.

In the breakfast spread, there is also ‘Pork Me’ for pork lovers that includes ‘Spicy pork sausage mince’, ‘Omelette with ham’ or ‘Bacon and toast’. For those who do not want an elaborate breakfast, simpler options like the healthy ‘Fruit bowl’ or the ‘Strawberry oatmeal’ can be opted for apart from waffles and pancakes. Omelettes with additions like smoked chicken and bacon among others are also served with toast and butter. “Our crowd constitutes a mix of foreigners and Bengalureans.

They love the variety we have. One will find people, starting from 20-year-olds, frequenting our place. They love it for the many options we offer and the ambience,” says Nikhil.

The restaurant also offers salads, pastas, burgers and steaks. “Some of our highlights include the ‘Vietnamese Pho’, the ‘Beef minced bacon wrapped salad’, the ‘Greek salad’ with feta cheese and the ‘Tangliolini pasta with red sauce’.

We try to offer something for everyone so that each person leaves our restaurant with a smile,” he adds.  If you’re looking for a quick or smaller bite, there are starters like ‘Pork spare ribs’, ‘Vietnamese lettuce wrap’, ‘Chicken chilli toast’, ‘French fries’ and ‘Garlic bread’.

If you choose to have a proper meal at the place, do wait and indulge in the ‘Brownies with ice cream and chocolate sauce’, as the sauce is homemade and unique in taste. To wash down your meal, there are fresh fruit drinks, coffee, tea, hot chocolate and fresh lime soda or juice available as well.  “For those who want to indulge in something more elaborate, there is the ‘Toblerone shake’ or ‘Oreo shake’, both of which are quite popular here. There are also smoothies like ‘Banana strawberry’ and ‘Apple mango’,” says Nikhil.

And if the exciting menu isn’t enough, the warm and appealing ambience of the place will definitely bring you in. “Our humble 30-seater space is like a garden area. Our customers love to just chill and relax there,” Nikhil says.

‘Sunny Side Up’ is located at 98/5, Davis Road, Cooke Town. The restaurant is open from 8 am to 9.30 pm and is open seven days a week.
