For the first time ever, a Chinese delegation will be landing at Aero India. Sources said the delegation will have five officers from the People’s Liberation Army (PLA)’s air wing.

This is being seen as a major shift in the Defence Ministry’s policy and is being dubbed as ‘proactive’. The five officers, according to sources, are Maj Like Yiu, Col Huang Xinyang, Lt Col Joan Jiaji, Maj Gen Wang Qiang and Sr Col Gao Zhikuan.

During the 2011 air show, a Chinese journalist, Li Miao had walked into the then Defence Minister A K Antony’s press conference, complaining that her attempts to get a pass to cover the show had failed.

She had wondered whether China was invited at all. Till date, Chinese firms have not taken part in the air show.
