A woman working at a mobile phone service store tried to murder a vegetable vendor by hitting him on his private parts over a petty issue at Geddalahalli in Sanjaynagar on Monday.

The suspect, Nagashree (35), is a resident of Geddalahalli in Sanjaynagar. She is known for creating ruckus in the area and assaulting residents over petty issues, the police said. She had stripped a woman constable when the constable had gone to her house to detain her in a case in 2013. There are seven cases against Nagashree, including assaulting workers at hotels and cloth stores.

Nagashree picked a fight with Gangadhar (40), a roadside vegetable vendor at Geddalahalli on Sunday as he was selling vegetables on the pavement. She lodged a complaint against him with the R T Nagar traffic police for blocking the pavement. The police detained him and let him off after giving him a stern warning, said the police.

She saw him selling vegetables at the same place on Monday and yelled at him, but he ignored her since he knew she picked fights frequently. Within minutes, a few locals gathered at the place. They objected to her frequent brawls in the area. She lost her cool and hit his private parts with her hands. However, the residents rescued him and thrashed her.

Nagashree and Gangadhar were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Later, she was handed over to the police. She was produced before a court and the judge remanded her in judicial custody.

Nagashree stays with her 13-year-old daughter as her husband passed away about two years ago.

The police have booked her under Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 and IPC Sections 504 (intentional insult), 307 (attempt to murder) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt).
