BTC gears up for the big day

Racing : Invitation Cup to bring top talent to Bengaluru
Last Updated 26 February 2017, 19:00 IST

Set to host the 55th Indian Turf Invitation Cup the coming weekend, the Bangalore Turf Club is leaving no stone unturned to make the biggest racing days of the year a memorable affair.

While the Indian Derby in Mumbai is the marquee event in the racing calendar, what makes the Invitation Cup weekend extra special is that only the finest horses from across the country compete, making it a high quality affair.

With the best of horses, trainers and jockeys set to descend in the Garden City, BTC — one of the premier racing centres in the country — is going all out to ensure that this edition stands apart as compared to the others.

While the draw ceremony for four main events — Stayers’ Cup, Sprinters’ Cup, Super Mile Cup and Invitation Cup — is to be held on Wednesday, a gala awards function has been organised on Saturday night at the Bangalore Palace to honour the champions across various categories.

To be conducted by Bollywood actress Chitrangada Singh, the show will feature performances from Terence Lewis Dance Company, International Symphony Orchestra and DJ Suketu.

“The Indian Turf Invitation Cup weekend is the most sought after racing event in the country and we at BTC are hosting it after a gap of five years,” said BTC chairman N Harindra Shetty addresing the media on Sunday.

“More than the high quality of competition, this is almost like a carnival. And we at BTC want to add more value to the event.

“It’s a challenge to pull it off but having hosted many big events in the past, we are extremely confident of staging a good show. We are looking forward to raising the bar and hope the action on track is excellent as well.”

On both Saturday and Sunday, BTC will showcase the rich history of Karnataka through floats that will go around the track in between races. Prizes will be handed out to punters and season ticket holders loyal to BTC.

All the races will be streamed live and free of cost on BTC’s website (www.bangaloreraces.com) while between 3:45 pm to 5:45 pm viewers can catch it live on Neo Sports.
