A 35-year-old man committed suicide after killing his wife and two-year-old daughter in their house in Someshwaranagar in Yelahanka New Town on Sunday night.

The incident came to light on Monday evening. The deceased are Amith Kumar Jha, his wife Meenakshi Jha (30) and their daughter Manya. The couple from Bihar were living in a rented house here for the past six years. They were running a playschool near their house, said the police.

On Sunday night, Amith and Meenakshi fought. Later, Amith force fed poison to Meenakshi and Manya. Fearing that Meenakshi would survive, he even stabbed her in the throat and abdomen. Later, Amith inflicted injuries by stabbing himself and hanged himself from the ceiling fan, said the police.

On Monday evening, the building owner Jayappa noticed that the couple were not seen around and assumed that they had gone out. But Jayappa grew suspicious, since they would inform him whenever they went out.

“Jayappa found the door of Amith’s house locked from inside. He knocked on the door repeatedly but there was no response. As foul smell was emanating from the house, Jayappa went to the terrace of his neighbour’s house and peeped through the window and found Amith hanging from the ceiling. He alerted the Yelahanka New Town police, who went to the spot and broke open the door to find all the three dead,” said a senior police officer. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem and reports are awaited.

Amith was addicted to alcohol and would frequently quarrel with his wife. He would get drunk and sleep on the pavements and roads. Meenakshi tried to reform him but failed, said a police officer.

Two years ago, he had promised to quit drinking and help Meenakshi in running the playschool. But after a few months, he returned to his old habits. The couple would fight every night and the neighbours had complained to Jayappa and asked him to evict them. Jayappa had pacified the couple several times.
