Big Merv lends support to Aussies

The current Australian side might lack the aggression and the intimidating attitude of the past teams. But giving them enough inspiration from the stands was Merv Hughes, the fiery former Australian fast bowler.

The 55-year-old Victorian was here at the Chinnaswamy with the Australian Sports Tours (AST), one of the country’s leading travel companies that supports the touring Australian sporting teams.

“We invite one cricketer for every tour of Australia and this time we have Merv with us. It is nice to have cricketers on our trips as we can learn more about the game talking to them. Merv is having a nice time with the team,” Seamus, one of the members of AST, said.

For someone who used to enjoy sledging, the exchange of words at the middle on Sunday would have taken Hughes back to his playing days. As the game heads to an interesting third day, the Australians definitely need the same amount of intensity and passion that Hughes displayed in his successful stint as a pacer.
