Six people sustained burns when an LPG cylinder exploded in their ground-floor rented house at Annasandrapalya on HAL Main Road, east Bengaluru, on Sunday night, police said.

Nagalakshmi (14) saw the LPG cylinder leaking around 9 pm. She informed her father, Devaraj (47), who rushed into the kitchen and tried to fix it by working the knob. His relative, Muniraju (48), tried to help him. Just then, the cylinder exploded. Hearing the loud noise, neighbours rushed to the house and were alarmed to see fire in the kitchen.

They called the fire brigade which rushed to the spot and doused the flames. Apart from the three, Devaraj’s relatives Nagalingaiah (14), Bhagyalakshmi (45) and Vijay (7) were also injured.

The injured were taken to hospital where doctors said Devaraj and Nagalakshmi had sustained severe burns but were out of danger while others had minor burns. Police said they were recording the statement of those injured to determine the cause of explosion. A case has been registered at HAL police station.
Devaraj runs a small restaurant near the house.
