Garden City University was formally launched at an event held at Hotel Lalit Ashok in the presence of Minister for Higher Education, Basavaraj Rayareddy.

The launch programme coincided with the 25th year celebrations of Garden City College that now has the status of a private university. The event was graced by several vice-chancellors from across universities in Karnataka, prominent academicians and a host of stalwarts from different fields.

During his address, the minister emphasised on the role of universities in guiding the youth.

 “I congratulate Dr Joseph for creating a world-class institution which is serving the society for the last 25 years. I am privileged to be a part of this programme and extend my heartfelt support to the institution.”

The event also witnessed the conferment of Karma Yogi Awards instituted by the Department of Societal Changes and Innovation to four different personalities who have made exemplary contributions in the fields of agricultural economy, social responsibility, infrastructure development and care for the downtrodden and the aged.

In his speech, Dr Joseph V G, Chancellor, Garden City University, and Consul to the Republic of Maldives in Bengaluru, spoke about the 25-year-old legacy in the field of academic excellence and extended his gratitude to all the members who played a crucial role in the growth of Garden City College, which is now Garden City University.

 “I started this institution for my living and later, I realised that I am living for the institution. There are students from 79 countries studying in our campus and I am committed to providing quality education to them. I would like to take a pledge to make GCU the best university in India.”

Prof N R Shetty, Chancellor, Central University of Karnataka, was also present on the occasion and congratulated Dr Joseph.
