Pandey stays captain for Hazare quarters

Last Updated 07 March 2017, 18:44 IST

Right-hand batsman Manish Pandey has been retained as captain while experienced R Vinay Kumar was given the role of Pandey’s deputy for Karnataka’s quarterfinal clash against Baroda in New Delhi on March 12.

Regular skipper Vinay missed the first four games of the season with a leg injury but returned in Karnataka’s fourth group stage game against Hyderabad. The right-arm medium pacer had essayed a match winning knock of 35 in the match to book Karnataka’s last-eight berth.

“Manish Pandey has captained the team from the beginning of the tournament. So the selectors didn't want to change that. They wanted him to continue. There's nothing else," said R Sudhakar Rao, secretary, Karnataka State Cricket Association.

KSCA spokesperson Vinay Mruthyunjaya said: “I won’t be able to tell you why Pandey was retained captain. It’s a personal reason.”

Team: Manish Pandey (captain), R Vinay Kumar (vice-captain), Robin Uthappa, Mayank Agarwal, R Samarth, Stuart Binny, K Gowtham, Pavan Deshpande, Anirudh Joshi, S Arvind, Shreyas Gopal, J Suchith, Prasidh Krishna, Ronit More, Rohan Kadam.
