Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who launched the campaign for bypolls on Sunday, exuded confidence that Congress candidate Geetha Mahadev Prasad will win the by-election to the Gundlupet Assembly constituency. However, he warned the partymen against complacency.

Mentioning about his defeat in 1999 elections due to overconfidence, Siddaramaiah said, “I had visited the constituency then only two days before the elections. I did not go for canvassing of votes as I thought that I would have a cakewalk because of my credentials.  But, when the results were announced, I had lost the elections.” He called upon the party workers and the local leaders not to be complacent and work hard for the victory of Congress candidate.

Siddaramaiah said, the demise of H S Mahadev Prasad was a personal loss for him and added that the late minister’s wife Geetha would emerge as a winner as Prasad had done a commendable work in the constituency .

The chief minister said, during the condolence meeting of Mahadev Prasad, he had sought the suggestions of the party workers on the suitable candidate and they had recommended the name of Geetha. Hence, it was decided to field her, he explained.

‘Trained to spin lies’
Commenting on a series of attacks by Yeddyurappa against Siddaramaiah and his Cabinet colleagues, the CM said, “Yeddyurappa has been making false allegations against the state government. All the BJP leaders have same mindset. RSS has been training the leaders on speaking lies. It has been doing this since its inception, he alleged. Yeddyurappa will not come to power under any circumstances, he reiterated.

‘Achche Din’ elusive
Speaking about the ‘Achche Din’ remark by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Siddaramaiah said, “The people have not seen any good days, so far. The PM had promised to deposit Rs 15 lakh in the bank account of the citizens, but not even 15 paise has been deposited, he ridiculed.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Geetha Mahadev Prasad, KPCC working president Dinesh Gundu Rao, District-in-charge Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao and others were present. Youth Congress members took out a motorbike rally on the occasion.
