49 more taluks to be carved out

A long-pending decision to form 49 new taluks has finally come true in the state budget proposals for 2017-18. At present, there are 176 taluks spread over 30 districts in Karnataka.

The first announcement to form new taluks was made by BJP leader Jagadish Shettar when he was the chief minister in 2013. However, it had not materialised due to the cost factor. Not less than a couple of crores would be required to form a new taluk.
