Last Updated 18 March 2017, 20:15 IST

A student of Maharani’s College for Women has complained of sexual harassment by a member of the faculty. The student wrote to the principal about it a week ago. The college is located in the heart of the city on Palace Road.

The principal placed the complaint before the college committee on sexual harassment. When it questioned the lecturer, he sought two days to respond, but eventually gave no explanation.

M N Ajay Nagabhushan, director of collegiate education, said he had sought an early report.  “I have instructed the principal to provide counselling for the student.

“A committee comprising social workers, a woman police officer and members of the students’ association is  looking into the matter,” he said. Nagabhushan said the contents of the complaint could not be revealed at this stage.

The accused lecturer has been sent to Kalaburagi with instructions to appear before the committee whenever summoned.
