Last Updated 22 March 2017, 18:39 IST

Actor Kunal Kapoor began his career as an assistant director for the movie ‘Aks’, starring Manoj Bajpayee and Amitabh Bachchan in the lead roles. He is best known for his roles in films like ‘Meenaxi: A Tale of Three Cities’, ‘Rang De Basanti’,  ‘Laaga Chunari Mein Daag’ and ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’.

His latest release is a trilingual project called ‘Veeram’ (in Malayalam). The English and Hindi versions of the film will release soon. He will soon be seen playing the role of an Army officer in ‘Raag Desh’ and is also playing an interesting character in Indie film ‘Noble Men’.

 Author
Gabriel Garcia Marquez

“I’ve always enjoyed reading the works of Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Bill Bryson. ‘One Hundred Years of Solitude’ and ‘Love in the Time of Cholera’ by Gabriel were among the first books that I read.

In ‘A Short History Of Nearly Everything’, I like the way Bill Bryson has presented complex theories in a humourous, understandable and relatable manner.

These two authors have had a great impact on me and have immensely shaped my thought process. I also have a large collection of Japanese comics.”

Music
U2

“I think ‘U2’ has created some timeless music. I’ve listened to almost all their albums. I also have an inexhaustible collection of songs by ‘Coldplay’ and ‘Kings of Leon’. My choice of music has a lot to do with my emotional state.

When I was growing up, I was drawn to a lot of heavy metal music, and wanted to be a part of several heavy metal bands. That changed much later. Now I enjoy
listening to soundtracks of different movies.”

Travel
Tokyo

“I have always felt connected with Japan through the many comics that I’ve read and Japanese pop culture that I’ve always been drawn to. I’ve had Japan on my wishlist for a long time and I fulfilled that wish when I recently visited Kyoto and Tokyo. These are two beautiful places that I would love to go back to again. Closer home, a holiday in Goa always makes me happy. I have family in Delhi and Punjab, so as a child, I would spend most of my vacations there. I still go back there whenever I can grab some time.”

Actor
Ranbir Kapoor

“I like the kind of projects that Ranbir Kapoor has
chosen to work on. He could have easily chosen romantic roles but he picked a different path. Hrithik Roshan is a good friend of mine and his ability and strength to overcome difficulties and bounce back is truly admirable. Amitabh Bachchan’s discipline, hardwork and commitment to his craft are there for everyone to see and emulate. I also like Aamir Khan’s conviction to work only on projects that he truly believes in.”

Inspiration
Kishore Kapoor

“There are a lot of people who have inspired me. I have learnt different things from different people. My father Kishore Kapoor has inspired and influenced me a great deal. He is an incredibly patient person and someone who remains calm even in the most difficult situation. He is happy with the little things that he has in life.

My mother Kanan Kapoor is a very gentle person who always desires to help other people. I admire my wife Naina for her amazing ability to look at any situation with a lot of depth and develop a deep understanding of everything that she gets involved in.”

Food
Sushi

“I am a big foodie. I love sushi and Maki rolls in Japanese cuisine. I can also never get enough of Thai food. I am an experimental eater and love exploring different kinds of cuisines. But since I am travelling for most part of the year, I yearn to return home to some good home-cooked food. I am usually content with a plate of ‘dal’, ‘roti’ and ‘chawal’ that is  prepared at home.”
