Last Updated 22 March 2017, 21:06 IST

A person, who claimed to be a journalist, was taken into custody by Upparpet police after he was found misbehaving with women protesters near Freedom Park on Wednesday morning.

The police said that Murali, a resident of JP Nagar, was asking for their mobile phone numbers and trying to click their photographs from his mobile phone.

Some women approached the police who were on bandobust duty at the spot and complained about his behaviour. The police took him to custody and questioned him.

Murali claimed that he is the editor of a newspaper. But he failed to provide his identity card when the police asked him for it.

Bike, mobile phone seized
The police asked the other journalists who were at the spot about him. No one recognised him. He was then taken to the Upparpet police station. The police seized his bike and mobile phone.
Even his name is doubtful and there are no documents to show that he is Murali. He is still being questioned, the police said.
