Rs 1.9L siphoned off from MLA's account

The MLA from Channapatna, C P Yogeshwar, has filed a complaint with Banashankari police, Bengaluru, alleging that Rs. 1.9 lakh has been siphoned off from his bank account by unknown persons without his knowledge.

The single transaction is said to have happened on March 17, 2017, and the complaint was lodged the next day, the police said. Yogeshwar has an account with State Bank of India, JC Road branch.

“We have written to the bank seeking the account statement of Yogeshwar to find out whether the cash was withdrawn or was transferred to another account. At this point, we cannot divulge any other details as the matter is under investigation," said S D Sharanappa, Deputy Commissioner of Police, South Division.

Sources in the police said Yogeshwar could have been a victim of skimming. It looks like the MLA had used his debit card somewhere when the card data has been compromised through skimming. With the data, the culprit has made a transaction from out of the state. Banashankari police sought the assistance of cybercrime police.
