Hoysala staff avert kidnap bid, rescue trader

The Hoysala patrolling staff not only averted a kidnap attempt, but also arrested a gang of seven which kidnapped a hardware shop owner for a ransom of Rs 20,000 on Friday.

Dhananjaya, the prime accused, used to visit his uncle’s garments shop located next to victim Mujahid’s hardware store in Malleswaram, the police said.

Dhananjaya hatched a plan with his friends to kidnap Mujahid for ransom. According to the plan, the accused followed Mujahid on their motorcycle and kidnapped him at knifepoint. Mujahid was on his way to KR Market to meet a friend. One of the suspect rode pillion with Mujahid and threatened him with a knife while the others followed them. After moving around Yeshwantpur, RMC Yard and Malleswaram, the suspect forced Mujahid to call his brother to come near Harishchandra Ghat with  Rs 20,000 to get his brother released.

Mujahid's brother informed the police control room and an alert was sounded. A Hoysala vehicle that was patrolling the nearby areas reached the spot and nabbed Dhanajaya and his associate Naveen after a hot chase, before rescuing Muhajid. The police later arrested the other suspects - Purushotham, Sanjay, Mahesh, Raya, Appu.
