Vikas Khanna unveils his book 'Utsav 2017'

Michelin-starred chef Vikas Khanna unveiled the cover of ‘Utsav — a Culinary Epic of Indian Festivals,’ a gold-encrusted book with 1,200 pages weighing 16 kilograms at the annual Utsav 2017 of Manipal University at KMC Greens in Manipal.

Earlier, he presented a copy of the book to Dr Ramdas M Pai, president and chancellor of Manipal University. The launch could not have been better.

Thousands of cheering students provided Vikas the perfect setting for a memorable launch. It was an emotional moment as well for the alumnus of Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration as he had his mother Bindu Khanna by his side. It was a proud moment for Manipal University as well to see its alumnus who is today a world famous chef.

The book is a unique collection of information about Indian festivals, ceremonies and rituals, along with the food served on those occasions that symbolise India and its heritage along with recipes and the sacred ingredients. It took 12 years for Khanna to write the book which was recently auctioned for Rs 30 lakh. He has presented his magnum opus to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Queen Elizabeth II and former US president Barack Obama and several other dignitaries.

Khanna was the chief guest at Manipal University’s five-day cultural fest ‘Utsav 2017’ which concluded recently. He released the book in the presence of Mrs Vasanthi R Pai, wife of Dr Ramdas M Pai; Dr H S Ballal, pro chancellor, Manipal University; Prof. Parvadhavardhini G, principal, WGSHA and others.
