Last Updated 12 April 2017, 20:21 IST

The police have taken up a suo motu case against a job agency and others for human trafficking for bonded labour in connection with the death of 17-year-old domestic help Phul Moni who fell down from ninth floor of an upscale apartment complex in Mahadevapura.

The accused have been booked under IPC Sections 370 and 306. The police, who interrogated the inmates of the house, confirmed that the family members had no clue about the antecedents of the victim and the case has been taken up sensing that it was a classic case of human trafficking for bonded labour.

A police team, sent to Delhi, has arrested three members of Milan Enterprises, the agency from where Phul Moni was ‘brought’ to Bengaluru. The arrested have been identified as Leyman Singh, director of Milan Enterprises, Sushil Patel, on whose bank account the money was deposited by the victim's employer Garima Grover, and Lalina alias Nalina, the agent.

The documents seized by the Bengaluru police team from the agency office in Delhi show that the age of the deceased is 21 years as on Wednesday, whereas the school certificate brought by her father showed the age as below 18 yrs, a senior police officer said.

Some other incriminating details were found during the search and the investigation is being conducted into each and every input, he added. Following the information provided by the Bengaluru police, the Assam police have also registered a case and two persons — Jhunk Hembram and Ganesh Hembram who sold Phul Moni to the agency for  just Rs 19,000 as a one-time payment — have been arrested.
