A man and his two-year-old child died while his wife survived in a suicide pact at Yelahanka on Thursday.

Mithun Kumar (31) and his son Gagan (2), residents of Allalasandra, were the deceased. Roja (23), Kumar’s wife, is being treated in hospital and her condition is said to be highly critical.

A preliminary enquiry indicated that Kumar and Roja decided to end lives due to financial problems. They had borrowed loans from various sources and were unable to repay them. They were also facing domestic problems, the police said.

Kumar ran a chicken centre, while Roja was a homemaker.  They hailed from Pattanayakanahalli in Sira taluk in Tumakuru district. They had moved to Bengaluru about 10 months ago and were staying at a rented house at Narayanappa Layout, Allalasandra.

Roja's parents and younger brother had come to meet her about three days ago. They left for their native place on Thursday morning, the police said.
Roja's brother returned for some reasons after some time. He knocked on the door, but there was no response. The door was locked from inside. He grew suspicious and broke open the door with the help of neighbours. He entered inside and spotted the couples and their son lying on the floor.

They had poisoned Gagan to death and had consumed the poison. He rushed them to a nearby hospital where the doctors declared the toddler and Kumar as brought dead, the police said.
