Brand Vision Tusker lifts CPL cricket trophy

Brand Vision Tusker lifted the Coastalwood Premier League (CPL) cricket trophy at the finals held at Nehru Maidan on Saturday in the city.

The winning team defeated Glitz Gladiators team in a nail-biting finish to pocket the cash prize of Rs 2 lakh with a trophy. The team is owned by Brand Vision Event Management and Marketing. The runner’s up Glitz had to be content for a purse of Rs 1 lakh.

Earlier in the day, Glitz team won the toss and elected to bat only to score big with 113 runs in the 10-over match. Rakesh Dilse was the star batsman for the side who hit 63 runs with seven sixes. Other batsmen Deepak and Sandeep hit 19 and 12 runs respectively for their side.

The openers of brand vision team who hit the crease later, suffered an initial setback by losing the wicket of Rakshit in the maiden over of the second session. Sampat Adyapady who came next, warded off the scare, by raining runs with the able support of Oscar Fernandes playing on the other end. By the end of fifth over, they had made 62 runs for one wicket and the duo continued to play unperturbed till 81 runs, when Oscar was declared run out. He had added 11 runs to the total score.

The brand vision was close to victory, but for 14 runs required in last two overs. However, when the score reached 101, another wicket fell only to build up the pressure. In the last over, the tally came down to 11 runs in six balls, but it melted down like an ice, with Sampath still at the crease. Sampath scored 92 runs in 40 balls with six sixes to his credit.

Sampath was also declared man of the match, besides collecting a trophy for being highest run getter and hitting more sixes.

Bowler Sachindra Shetty was felicitated for bagging highest of 11 wickets in the tournament.
