Sale of liquor will be banned between 6 am on Saturday and 5 pm on Sunday in Indiranagar and Halasuru in the wake of the procession of idols of Someshwara and Kamakshamma. Over 30,000 people are expected to attend the religious ritual.

The DCP (East) Ajai Hilori submitted a report to City Police Commissioner Praveen Sood recommending a ban on sale of liquor to prevent trouble during the event. The report stated that anti-social elements might spread violence under the influence of alcohol.

Based on the recommendation, Sood directed the closure of all bars, wine shops, pubs and other outlets selling liquor coming under Indiranagar and Halasuru police stations.

In view of the procession, police have imposed traffic restrictions in the areas.
