The Byatarayanapura police have registered a case against a sepoy in the Indian army after his pregnant wife was found dead suspiciously at his elder brother’s house on Thursday night.

Asha (24), a native of Kunigal in Tumakuru district was married to Mohan Kumar around two years ago. The couple have a 11-month-old baby. Kumar was posted in Gujarat.

According to the police, Kumar had sent Asha to her native place after she conceived for the second time. He went to Kunigal on Thursday and brought her back to Bengaluru as he wanted to take her to Gujarat along with him. The couple stayed in the Timber Yard house of Ramalingam, the elder brother of Kumar. The couple fought around 9 pm when Kumar thrashed Asha. She called up her brother Ajay Kumar and narrated her ordeal. Later, she slept with her child in a room, the police said.

Asha was found hanging from the ceiling fan when Ajay reached the house. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival. Based on a complaint lodged by Ajay, the police registered a case against Kumar.

“ He will be detained for questioning. The police are awaiting the post mortem report to ascertain the cause for the death,” DCP (West) M N Anucheth told DH. The police have detained Ramalingam for questioning.
