In 2006-07, the State government had announced Rs 1.5 crore for the construction of cultural complex in the budget and a sum of Rs one crore was released for the same. The then District-in-Charge Minister Ramachandra Gowda and Kannada and Culture department Minister H S Mahadevaprasad had laid foundation for the complex at a maidan near Junior College.

However, in the backdrop of protest by various organisations to construct cultural complex near Junior College, district administration dropped the proposal to build the complex there. Unfortunately, in the same place, indoor stadium has come up now.

In the meantime, district administration came forward with a proposal to demolish Cauvery Kalakshethra to build cultural complex in the heart of the city. However, the CMC refused to hand over the land to the department of Kannada and Culture for the construction of cultural complex. As a result, the proposal was dropped.

Kannada and Culture department former secretary I M Vittalamurthy urged the CMC and district administration to solve the issue amicably by a dialogue. However, later, no meeting or dialogue was held to construct cultural complex at a place which houses Cauvery Kalakshethra. In the meantime, two places at Sudarshan guest house and behind St Michael School was identified for the construction of cultural complex. Though officials and elected representatives inspected the land, a final decision has not yet been taken so far.

The Suvarna Samskrithika Samucchaya which was sanctioned to other districts along with Kodagu has been completed. However, in Kodagu, even the land has not been finalised. After two months, monsoon will come in way of any development works in the district. How much time is required to finalise the land, ask admirers of literature.
