UP govt to form 'anti-land mafia task force'

Uttar Pradesh government has decided to set-up an 'anti-land mafia task force' to get the public and private lands vacated from illegal possession.
 
The decision was taken at the meeting of the state cabinet here on Tuesday, an official spokesman here said.
 
The spokesman said that the task force would ''identify'' the lands which were under illegal possession of the people and then get them vacated.
 
The government also decided to ensure that public lands were not illegally occupied on the pretext of setting up religious places.
 
He said that the state government has launched an on line portal for the people to register their complaints.
 
The spokesman said that the government has also decided to scrap holidays on the birth and death anniversaries of great personalities. ''15 such holidays have been scrapped,'' he said.
 
The government offices and schools and colleges would remain open on these days and different programs would be organised there highlighting the important incidents in the lives of such great personalities, he added.
 
A special one week session of the state assembly would be convened from May 15, the spokesman said.
