Biddatanda Cup: Fancied Palangada, Madetira advance

Riding on a fine hat-trick by Dilan Devaiah, Madetira steamrolled Mukkateera 7-1 in their preliminary round match in Kodava family hockey tournament for Biddatanda Cup at General K S Thimayya Stadium at Cheriyaparambu near here on Wednesday.

In another match played at the same venue, the five-time champion Palangada blanked Kabbacheera 4-0.

Palangada Muthappa sounded the board twice while former India international Amar Ayyamma and Pradhan Cariappa netted a goal apiece for the team which had featured in eight finals in the tournament which started in 1997.

Olympian Len Aiyappa, who did no harm to his reputation, produced a superlative performance to steer Ballachanda to a 4-0 victory against Cheyyanda. In the other matches played today, Kadanda edged out Bolakaranda 4-1 while Mekerira recorded a resounding 5-0 win over Boliyadira. Paradanda stave off a stiff challenge from Pattacheruvanda 1-0.
