Actor Vinod Khanna passes away at 70

Actor and four-time BJP MP Vinod Khanna passed away in Mumbai after prolonged illness. He was 70.
Khanna is survived by wife Kavita and four children. Khanna separated from his first wife, Geetanjali, in 1985. He has two sons from the first marriage - actors Akshaye and Rahul. From the second marriage he has a son Sakshi and daughter Shraddha.

Khanna began his career, which lasted nearly five decades, with Man Ka Meet in 1968 and is best remembered for his performance in films like Mere Apne, Mera Gaon Mera Desh, Muqaddar Ka Sikander, Amar Akbar Anthony, Qurbani and Dayavaan. His last movie was Dilwale in 2015.

A four-time MP from Gurdaspur, Khanna was minister of state in the NDA government headed by Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and held several portfolios.

Khanna passed away at the Sir H N Reliance Foundation Hospital at Girgaum, where he was admitted on March 31. “Veteran actor and MP Mr Vinod Khanna breathed his last at 11.20 am due to advanced bladder carcinoma,” the hospital said.

Khanna’s body was later taken to his Malabar Hill residence for people to pay last respects. The last rites were performed at Worli crematorium.
