Kejriwal averts rift, makes Vishwas R'than in-charge

The dark clouds that engulfed the AAP after the Delhi municipal poll debacle blew over on Wednesday, with the party’s top leadership placating a warring Kumar Vishwas with a new role.

The party also suspended MLA Amanatullah Khan, who had publicly spoken against Vishwas and accused him of trying to overthrow the Arvind Kejriwal leadership.

The decision came at a meeting of the AAP’s political affairs committee (PAC), chaired by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The committee decided to make Vishwas the party in charge of Rajasthan, where Assembly polls are due next year.

“I stand by my party. I assure that whenever the AAP needs course correction, we will sit together again. This dialogue was necessary and I am thankful that it is happening now,” the poet-turned-politician Vishwas said after the meeting.

Khan, for his part, tweeted, “I respect the decision taken by the party. I will try to ensure that the party does not suffer due to my actions.”
