ABB unveils global service centre for drives

Last Updated 04 May 2017, 18:13 IST

Global technology company ABB on Thursday opened its third global service centre in Bengaluru for energy saving drives, as part of its greater game plan to go ahead with digital services platform ABB Ability.

Interacting with DH, Subir Pal, President of Robotics and Motion division, ABB India said the ABB remote service centre will provide 24x7 access to information and support on drives installed at customer facilities.

“It will help the predictive maintenance and condition monitoring for all industries including power, cement, oil and gas, metals, food and beverage and many other applications. It will support customer installations in India and around the world,” he said.

Pal said in India 31% of total electrical energy is consumed by industrial motors. “Drives control the speed of these motors and a key component of enabling energy efficiency. The global service centre helps in the faster identification of potential problems leading to increased uptime of customer assets and ultimately savings in operational costs,” he said.

“Drives are a key element of energy efficiency(EE). Drives also provide the option of ensuring smooth industrial growth while decoupling it from carbon emissions in emerging economies.  Aligned with government’s vision of 24x7 smart power generation and consumption,  drives brings in EE yields, which help faster return on investment in up to two years,” he said.

ABB is rolling out the digital portfolio to customers in India and partner them in the next level of their journey to develop a range of future services that will allow customer assets to become digital ready.

“We recently globally launched ABB Ability offering of more than 180 solutions across all customer segments which combines ABB’s portfolio of digital solutions and services, cementing the group’s leading position in the Fourth Industrial Revolution and supporting the competitiveness of ABB’s four entrepreneurial divisions,” he said.

In addition to this digital remote center, ABB’s R&D facility has been for quite some time conducting condition monitoring and predictive analytics up to 5,000 robots and 100 cement plants all over the world from Bengaluru.

Production line

ABB India also inaugurated a new production line that manufactures digitally enabled low voltage drives (ACS560 and ACS580 series). “ACS560 has been innovated in India for Indian customers and part of our Make in India strategy, having the user interface in Hindi and energy calculator in rupees,” said Pal. “It combines the best of localisation with global technologies of easy commissioning with a click and remote access securely through the cloud and smartphones.”

He said the new drive has application macros for industries like plastic, textile water and pharma, and unique icon-based display for quick commissioning fulfilling the requests of Indian customers.

Besides multiple energy optimisation features, these drives are easily commissioned via smartphone and help in uninterrupted operations during power fluctuations.
