YMMA, Beagles champs

YMMA and Beagles BC emerged champions in the boys’ and girls’ categories respectively in the State junior (under-18) basketball championship at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium here on Sunday.

In the boys’ final, YMMA overcame a resilient Devanga Union 77-61 while Beagles got the better of Mounts Club 46-33 in the girls’ title tie.

Vishaal (21 points) and Prathyanshu (16 points) were the star performers for YMMA while Dev and Pradyumna with 20 and 12 points respectively did well for Devanga.
YMMA started well and were ahead 39-28 at half-time.

Though Devanga fought hard, YMMA kept their noses in front, finally emerging winners by a 16-point margin.

Meanwhile, Beagles, who were trailing by one point (20-21) at the break, rode on impressive efforts of Sanjana (17) and Chandana (13), to bounce back and secure the game in their favour in the second period.

For Mounts Club, Thangam and Mira scored nine points each.

IBBC secured the third place finish after beating NGV BC 46-35.
Yeshwanth starred with 28 points for the winners while Krishna emerged as the top scorer with 12 points for NGV.

Results: Final: Boys: YMMA: 77 (Vishaal 21, Prathyanshu 16) bt Devanga Union 61: (Dev 20, Pradyumna 12) . Third place: IBBC: 46 (Yeshwanth 28) bt NGV BC: 33 (Krishna 12)
Girls: Final: Beagles BC: 46 (Sanjana 17, Chandana 13) bt Mounts Club: 35 (Thangam 9, Mira 9).
