Newly appointed AICC general secretary incharge of Karnataka K C Venugopal and four AICC secretaries are scheduled to arrive in Bengaluru on Monday to hold consultations with the party leaders and workers, among others, on the appointment of the new Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president.

Venugopal, who is visiting Karnataka for the first time after his appointment, has a packed schedule in Bengaluru. He is holding a series of meetings with the party leaders at the KPCC office on Queen’s Road, during his three-day stay here from May 8 to May 10,
According to his itinerary, he is scheduled to hold a meeting with each of the KPCC office-bearers, district party presidents and heads of various frontal organisations on Monday. Meeting with senior party leaders, MPs, MLCs and MLAs has been scheduled for Tuesday.
He will be meeting Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, KPCC president G Parameshwara and working president Dinesh Gundu Rao on the last day of his visit. Sources in the party said that Venugopal will elicit the opinion of the party workers and leaders on the appointment of new KPCC president. He will subsequently submit a report to the Congress high command in this regard.

Appropriate decision
The high command is likely to take an appropriate decision on the appointment based on the report, the sources added. The Congress leader in the Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge had recently said the party will appoint a new KPCC chief within 15 days.

Currently, Parameshwara is doubling as the KPCC president and the Home minister. Besides, the new general secretary will be eliciting suggestions from the party workers and the leaders on party’s preparations for the 2018 Assembly elections.

He is also scheduled to hold the KPCC co-ordination committee meeting on May 10. The sources said the party has decided to start the process of electing new office-bearers of the KPCC and district Congress committees by May end. However, there will be no election to the post of KPCC president. The party high command will appoint the new president, they added.
