Four persons suffocated to death in a fire mishap in Chennai

In a tragic incident, at least four persons including three women were suffocated to death and five others suffered serious breathing problems in a major fire that broke at an multi-storey apartment in Vadapalani are in the city.

Police sources said that fire broke out at about 4 am at the ground floor of the building. Thick fumes entered the houses and the victims were suffocated while they were sleeping.

Chennai district collector V Anbuselvan said five people were admitted to Kilpauk government hospital and condition of one person stated to be serious.

He said the fire was fully brought under control by the fire and rescue service personnel.

The official said more than 20 two wheelers, which was parked in the ground floor, completely damaged due to fire. The collector said that police were investigating the reason for the fire accident and forensic science experts inspected the accident site.

Initial investigation revealed that fire broke out due to electric short circuit in the ground floor.
