Mohammad Shami, returning to one-day international squad after two years, said he is eager to do his best in the upcoming Champions Trophy.

Shami, who last played an ODI during the 2015 World Cup, said he has worked on his strength and fitness. "Two years is a long time for a player. I have focussed on my strength and fitness. I have also worked on my weaknesses. I have lost weight. I am hopeful that I can perform well in the upcoming Champions Trophy. I will try to do my best and continue from where I had left," Shami said after being picked for the Champions Trophy on Monday.

Shami believed India has one of the best attacks in the world and hoped they could defend the trophy.
“Our attack is one of the best in the world. We have to focus, help and guide each other,” he said.

Shami, who has been regularly turning up for Delhi Daredevils in the ongoing Indian Premier League, felt it was a good platform for him to prepare for the Champions Trophy. He also admitted benefitting from the company of seasoned left-arm seamer Zaheer Khan, who is the captain of Daredevils.

“IPL is a good platform for me and getting 8-10 T20 matches before going to the international tournament will be ideal for me,” he said.

“Also, since I am coming after a long time speaking to former players is always valuable to me. If you speak to Zaheer Bhai, there is something or the other that comes out that could add to my game,” he said.
