Youth attacks Mishra at hunger strike venue

Last Updated 10 May 2017, 19:51 IST
A youth claiming to be an AAP worker attacked sacked Delhi minister Kapil Mishra during his hunger strike on Wednesday.

The ousted minister began the strike demanding that AAP disclose details of funding for foreign tours of some of its leaders. According to Mishra, the youth approached him at the strike venue around 5.30 pm and grabbed him by his neck. Mishra’s supporters rushed towards him and freed him from the youth, identified as Ankit Bhardwaj.

“I am an AAP worker. Nobody sent me. Mishra is harming the party,” Bhardwaj said as he was led away.  However, the AAP claimed that Bhardwaj was BJP’s Yuva Morcha Delhi executive committee member and retweeted a series of tweets in this regard. But the tweets were later removed.

AAP leader Sanjay Singh also said Bhardwaj’s social media profile and posts showed that he was a BJP supporter.  But, the BJP has denied any links with the incident or the person who targeted Mishra.

The BJP, for its part, presented before the media the activist associated with the organisation. The BJP youth wing leader claimed that the AAP had deliberately created the
confusion.

Meanwhile, Mishra said he would not name anyone, though he indicated that “two to three people who would be affected” by his actions could be behind it.

“I will not say it is a conspiracy by the party or the leaders,” he added. Mishra also claimed that he had got a phone call on Tuesday night, threatening he would be shot.

His hunger strike comes a day after he approached the CBI seeking a probe into the foreign tours by ministers Satyendar Jain, Sanjay Singh, Ashish Khetan, Raghav Chadha and Durgesh Pathak.
