Close on the heels of the arrest of a Chartered Accountant linked to Lalu Prasad's family, the Income Tax Department has summoned the RJD chief's MP daughter Misa Bharti and her husband in connection with its probe into suspected benami deals worth Rs 1,000 crore and a tax evasion case.

Bharti, a Rajya Sabha MP, and her husband Shailesh Kumar have been asked to appear before Investigating Officer in the first week of June.

The IT Department action comes two days after the Enforcement Directorate arrested Rajesh Agarwal, a CA who is alleged to have aided illegal transactions. The ED had said that Agarwal was also associated with some transactions involving Mishail Packers and Printers Pvt Ltd, allegedly linked to Bharti.

It had on May 16 conducted searches in several places belonging to around two dozen entities and seized documents.

Official sources said the summons to Bharti and her husband is part of the investigations. Their statement will be recorded when they present themselves before the IT Department.

It is claimed that the couple are linked to Mishail Packers and Printers Pvt Ltd and the company has entered into benami deals for purchase of a farm house in the national capital.

The RJD chief earlier said he was "not scared at all" and would continue to fight against "fascist forces".

"BJP does not have the courage to stifle my voice. If it tries to silence one Lalu, crores of Lalu will come forward. I am not scared of empty threats," he had said in a series of tweets after the search operation earlier.
