Honour Killing: Jaipur police arrests in laws of the victim

Police on Wednesday arrested four people including the father-in-law and mother-in-law of Amit Nair, who was killed on May 17 at his home in Jaipur in front of his pregnant wife.

The police said that after numerous attempts to separate their daughter Mamta from Nair  the family decided to murder him.

“For the last 7 months , the in-laws of Amit Nayar were planning his murder. We have arrested Nayar’s father-in-law Jeevan Ram, mother-in-law Bhagwani Devi. Another person, Bhagwana Ram who was also instrumental in planning the crime has also been arrested,” said commissioner of police Sanjay Agarwal. Jeevan Ram was arrested from Haryana while Devi was nabbed from Sikar district.

Suspected to be a case of honour killing, one week ago  Amit Nayar was shot dead in front of his wife and in-laws by one of the henchman’s of his father-in-law. Amit suffered grave injuries on her neck, windpipe and chest and succumbed on the spot.

According to police, Mamta Chaudhry (27) was in love with a man identified as Amit Nair, who was a civil engineer by profession.  The victim, Amit Nair, tied a knot with Mamta Chaudhary nearly two years ago against the wishes of his in-laws
