Regional transport office (RTO) inspectors conducted a surprise drive on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday and registered more than 40 cases at the highway toll near Nelamangala.

The inspectors, led by Joint Transport of Commissioner J Gnanendra, seized many private buses which were transporting commercial goods under the garb of carrying passenger luggage.

“The operation started at 10 pm and continued till 1 am. Carrying commercial goods, including inflammable materials, has led to tragedies in the past. We received a tip-off that private buses continue to violate rules and decided to conduct the midnight check,” Gnanendra said.

The joint commissioner said a special squad booked 205 vehicles for violation the carriage permit rule in southern Bengaluru, including Ring Road and Hosur Road, Bannerghatta Road and Banashankari surroundings on Thursday.

“We booked a Tempo Traveller providing stage carriage services with the help of an aggregator named ZipGo.

“The Tempo Traveller violated the contract carriage permission by providing such services in the nationalised and non-specified routes,” he added.

Stage carriage service, which involves picking up riders from multiple locat-ions and dropping them at different destinations, is the exclusive for BMTC in Bengaluru.
