Quantum of unaccounted for water has dropped in city, says CM

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday launched a free-water scheme for the urban poor offering them 10,000 litres of drinking water every month. The project would benefit 70,947 families living in the slums in the city.

Addressing a gathering at the launch of the scheme at Srirampuram, Siddaramaiah outlined various pro-people measures that would improve the living standards of economically and socially weaker sections.

Siddaramaiah said he would extend the benefit to the areas where SC/ST communities are living.

“Potable water is the biggest problem confronted by people living in slums. We have decided to supply pure drinking water to these households. I have spoken about it to the BWSSB chairperson to chart out a plan,” he said.

The chief minister said the unaccounted for water in 2016 was about 50%, which has now reduced to 40%. After supplying free water to slums, the percentage of unaccounted for water will reduce to 39.

Speaking on the occasion, Rajajinagar MLA S Suresh Kumar opined that the city may not require another water project if the leakage of water is arrested and brought down to 25%.
