Rain, thunderstorm wreak havoc in city again

Heavy rain and thunderstorm wreaked havoc on Bengaluru on Friday with traffic gridlocks and flooding being reported from across the city.

A source in the BBMP said trees came crashing down at around 50 places in the city, with reports of huge branches falling on cars parked on the road at some places.

No casualties

However, no casualties were reported. Several areas plunged into darkness as Bescom disconnected power supply. Water gushed into several houses in Anepalya and Madiwala.

A play had to be stopped midway after rain water gushed into the Nayana Auditorium in Kalasipalya.

Residents around Hoskerehalli called the BBMP control room for help as water was overflowing from the storm water drain.

“We have alerted the chief engineer of South Zone who is rushing to the spot with the Rapid Action Force,” said a control room operator.

BBMP commissioner N Manjunatha Prasad camped in the BBMP control room to monitor relief operations.

A source in the Met department said till 10.15 pm, Bandekodigehalli received 118 mm rain, Avalahalli received 100 mm, Doddabanahalli 90 mm, Kadugodi 84 mm and Hoodi received 74 mm rain. Mayor Padmavathi G suurveyed different parts of the city.
