Gang-rape after surgery: UP victim recalls horror

Last Updated 26 May 2017, 20:14 IST

The oldest victim of the Greater Noida expressway gang-rape had recently undergone hysterectomy.

With folded hands, she pleaded with the perpetrators to spare her, but they showed no mercy.

“I kept pleading with them to spare me... I was already in pain... But they did not show mercy,” the victim said.

Hysterectomy is a surgical procedure to remove all or part of the uterus. It has now come to light that the local police took more than an hour to arrive at the spot.
“We called the police. By the time they reached, the bandits had escaped,” a relative of the victims said on Friday.

Police said the culprits fired at one of the tyres of the vehicle in which the victims and other members of the family were travelling.  This forced the driver to stop.

The bandits, six in number, dragged the family, comprising four women, two men and two children, away from the highway, looted cash and valuables, besides shooting one of the men dead, when he protested.

The incident took place in Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddh Nagar district, about 70 km from Delhi, on Wednesday night. The youth, who was driving the car, had called his brother back home to inform that the tyre had punctured, when the gang attacked him. His cell phone fell on the ground, but continued to function.

The brother on the other end of the call could hear the cries of the victims while they were being sexually assaulted. Police sources said special teams had been formed to nab the culprits.
