Schoolchildren in uniforms and bags, marched their way to schools on Monday morning, as the summer holidays ended.

The government schools were decorated with buntings and the entire schools wore festive look. The teachers warmly welcomed their students. Sweets were distributed, and the students exchanged greetings and memories of summer vacations.

Vehicles carrying children to schools took to the roads. Government School teacher Manjunath said that on the first day of the academic year 2017-18, the number of students was less. “The children will turn up in two to three days,” he opined.

‘A week more’

Class 7 student Srividya said that it might take a week more to come out of the holiday hangover. “Now it is time to rejoin the school friends. The regular classes will start in a week,” she said.

The Department of Public Instructions has taken initiatives to increase the admission of students in government schools. General admissions will be open in government schools from June 1 to 30. Also, rallies have been conducted to create awareness among parents to admit their wards to schools. The admissions in schools is in full swing.

“Uniforms, text books and shoes will be distributed at government schools in three to four days,” DDPI Nagesh said.
