In the past four years, Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has collected more than Rs 1.85 crore as fine from violators who were caught smoking in public places. Around 92,000 passengers have been penalised so far.
KSRTC has been imposing a penalty of Rs 200 for smoking in public places. It released the information at a programme on Wednesday to observe ‘World No Tobacco Day’ at the satellite bus stand on Mysuru Road. The event organised by KSRTC, ‘World No Tobacco Day 2017’- A threat to Development, was launched by pouring water on tobacco products collected during the enforcement drive at bus stands.
