BTC chairman Y Jagannath, horse trainer Neil Darashah and Lokendra Kumar from the administration section were interrogated by CID officials for three hours in the Bangalore Turf Club (BTC) horse doping case.

The Criminal Investigation Department had issued summons to seven people in the case. After interrogation, it emerged that all horses are injected with procaine to relieve them of their tiredness and pain due to races.

However, race horse Queen Latifa had a swollen throat with an abscess and according to veterinarians, she was treated with procaine from January 27 to February 7, 2017. It was only after 25 days of treatment that Queen Latifa won the race.

According to European Horse Race Scientific Liaison Committee, from the routine urine collected from winning horses, every millilitre of urine can contain 10 nanograms of procaine.

The procaine levels in Queen Latifa’s urine samples were low, revealed Mauritius’ QuantiLAB. BTC officials claim that a few people deliberately raked up the issue to defame the club.
