District In-charge Minister Pramod Madhwaraj has said that a proposal worth Rs 30 crore for a KSRTC bus stop in Bannanje has been submitted before the cabinet for approval.

After flagging off Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) buses on Udupi-Shivamogga route, the minister said that as many as 55 permits have been approved in Udupi district for JNNURM buses.

He said that 39 buses have been pressed into service and added that the remaining would be deployed in the routes where there are few buses and there is no service of private buses. The routes would be decided based on the demands of the public, he said.

He said senior citizens and students will be offered concessions. Another 20 buses will be offered to the district shortly. He said tenders for the JNNURM city bus stand have been called and the bus stand would be built at a cost of Rs 4 crore. Under DULT and Nagarotthana Yojane, hi-tech city bus stops will be built at Malpe, Manipal and Udupi, he said.

Permits for JNNURM buses plying on the Udupi-Shivamogga route are being issued in Udupi, he said.
