The city police have arrested a person from Jammu and Kashmir for molesting a woman, who had come to the city for an interview with a leading bank in Mico Layout recently.

The suspect, Habeeb, a resident of Puttenahalli in JP Nagar, is a native of Jammu and Kashmir. He moved to the city a few years ago and is employed with a private firm in the city.

The victim, a BCom graduate from Udupi, had appeared for the interview and was anticipating a call. She got a call from an unknown number and the caller introduced himself as Rohan from the HR team of the bank.

He claimed that she had failed to clear the final round of the test and told her to meet him outside the bank for a discussion. When she met him outside, he invited her to his home for a discussion, but she refused. Habeeb attempted to grab her and bundle her into his vehicle.

She escaped from him and ran inside the bank. She enquired with the staff about Rohan and realised that he had cooked up a story. She approached the police and lodged a complaint.

Based on CCTV footage and number provided by the victim, the police arrested him. He was using number given in Uttar Pradesh. He told the police that he collected the victim’s number from the ledger in the bank. He told the police that he had called up the woman and had tortured her.
