This season’s favourite toy has swept many off their feet. Fidget spinners have become a craze of late and people of all ages across the globe have deemed this little toy as a must-have gadget. It is also said to be quite helpful in calming nerves and is marketed as an antidote for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, anxiety and autism.

The videos of DIY fidget spinners have gone viral on social media platforms. These are small, ball-bearing devices that the user can rotate between their fingers. It is said that the momentum of the toy provides a pleasing sensory experience. It is widely available in entertainment and toy stores across the city.

‘Bliss Junkies’, an entertainment store in Koramangala, will soon be holding a ‘Fidget Spinning Championship’. Pavan, the owner of the store says, “I must say, the fidget spinner is one of the best inventions in recent times. Not only does it look cool but it also helps in relieving stress. I am excited to stock them and it will be fun to see how the customers react to this toy. We are hosting a championship to promote mental healthcare and the development of alternative fun activities”.

Though there isn't enough research regarding whether or not these spinners can actually help people, this toy has caught the attention of many. It comes in bright colours and different themes.

Dhanush Babu says that it is his favourite gadget and adds,“I drive to work and often get stuck in traffic. The frustration and heat makes the journey unbearable. The fidget spinner has helped me stay calm and keep my cool at the worst of times.”

However, not everyone is a fan of this. It has become a hassle for teachers around the globe as they say it distracts the students more than anything else. But Upasana Sudarshan, a student herself, says, “It is a great stressbuster and I personally use it  to handle my tension. My friends too use it. One of them recently took mine away because she loved it and now I’m forced to order another one”. Along with this, toys like ’Slimy’ and ‘Gel grippers’ are also being used as stress relievers and many have taken such means to relax and destress.
