Farmers fret over Re 1 'crop compensation'
Amidst the claims by some farmers that they had received just Re 1 as crop loss compensation, Deputy Commissioner S B Bommanahalli clarified on Friday that Re 1 received by some farmers was not the crop compensation, but the amount credited by the National Payment Corporation of India into their accounts just to test whether their bank accounts had been seeded with their Aaadhar number or not.

He stated that the full crop compensation would be credited to the farmers’ accounts in a week’s time.

On Friday, scores of farmers who had suffered crop loss during the kharif last year, were shocked after the government had remitted only Re 1 into their accounts as compensation.

Bommanahalli told DH that as scores of farmers in the district had not linked their Aaadhar numbers with their bank accounts, the district administration had taken up the task of seeding the bank accounts of the farmers with their Aaadhar number.

Now, the National Payment Corporation of India is testing their bank accounts to verify whether the accounts are active.
