Permission for prepaid taxi stand at rail stn withdrawn

Last Updated 10 June 2017, 20:05 IST

Bangalore and Airport Taxi Drivers Union has sought immediate intervention of P C Mohan, the member of Parliament from Bangalore Central, against the decision of railway officials to cancel the permission granted for operating a prepaid taxi stand at Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna (KSR) City railway station.

The South Western Railway (SWR)  had rented out its premises to the union for three years — from May 1, 2015, to April 30, 2018, on a monthly rent of Rs 72,000.

Rent not paid
The union failed to pay rent for April and May 2017 despite repeated demands. It also did not pay the rent for the taxi stand at the Bengaluru Cantonment railway station.

Hence, the SWR withdrew the permission granted to the union for operating prepaid taxi services at its railway stations.

The union members told reporters that the railway officials were hand in glove with the app-based taxi operators.“The officials are forcing us to permit Ola cabs to be parked in our parking lot, which we opposed. There was a delay of just two months in making the payment,” Mohan, a member of the Union said.

“The SWR senior officers did not entertain us when we went to them seeking a solution. The MP has asked us to meet him on Sunday to redress the grievance,” he said.
